Consciousness | culture | Subjectivity | VlogThe media spends so much time and energy focusing on problems, but how can they do a better job at empowering citizens towards a vision of hope and possibility? ![]() Music: On The Moon (Trip Hop mix) by disharmonic This video features some insights on this from Sharif Abdullah, Marilyn Schlitz, Don Beck and Van Jones. Communications | New Media | Objectivity | PhilosophyOfScience | Subjectivity | WilberRebecca MacKinnon agreed to pass along some of my ideas about a New Media Ecosystem, and commented to me that it was a bit difficult to quickly digest and convey to people. I sent her back the following e-mail that gives a little more context to the issue, and hopefully clarifies it a little bit -- But there is no easy solution for a complete paradigm shift in how we understand and comprehensively explain reality. These ideas are dense which is exactly why they haven't been implemented yet -- We need to pool together the collective knowledge of our society in order to integrate all of the different viewpoints into one comprehensive system that takes into account all of the different ontologies. I propose that this system is Ken Wilber's Integral Philosophy, and I sent Rebecca the following e-mail trying to give a little bit more context. Limitations of Wiki News' Neutral Point of View PolicySubmitted by kentbye on Mon, 2005-01-24 20:16. Journalism | Objectivity | PhilosophyOfScience | Rosen | Subjectivity | Theory | WikiWikipedia founder Jimbo Wales was at the Harvard Blogging Conference this weekend, and he spoke about the Neutral Point of View Policy (aka NPOV) and how it might apply to Wiki News. Wales said that the NPOV policy works best as a means to get a lot of people to collaborate and synthesize news from other primary news sources, but that it would be probably difficult for WikiNews to do much original reporting. They have high standards of neutrality and verifiability, and they also don't accept original reporting unless it is from a known and trusted wikipedian. New Methods of Creating MeaningSubmitted by kentbye on Wed, 2005-01-12 21:02. Blog | Choice | Dialogue | Film | New Media | Objectivity | Open Source | PR | Subjectivity | Theory | WilberThe concept of Integral Filmmaking combined with the principles of Open Source could introduce new methods for how meaning is created. Traditionally, the Mainstream Media or documentary filmmakers had the most power in determining what meaning was created through their editing judgments. But combining the Internet, Blogging and documentary filmmaking mediums could allow the audience to create their own meaning from information instead of relying upon the "objective" mainstream media, partisan press or closed-source documentary films. The Open Source tactics of the The Echo Chamber documentary and website could create up to four distinct phases of meaning creation that could provide a unique economic competitive advantage. EXISTING PROCESS OF MEANING CREATION Integral Journalism -- Combining the Objective and SubjectiveSubmitted by kentbye on Wed, 2005-01-12 16:36. Journalism | New Media | Objectivity | Subjectivity | Theory | Transparency | WilberThere are flaws with a purely "objective" press as well as a purely partisan press. Objective mainstream journalism relies upon the government institutions and other official government sources -- but the two-party system has a virtually monopoly on the spectrum of debate. Partisan journalists allows their political biases to disproportionately present a set of facts so that their position will win the argument every time. Integral Journalism is a new paradigm that could potentially provide the framework to integrate objective facts with a set of possible subjective interpretations of those facts (i.e. competing partisan, non-partisan and transpartisan hypotheses). Industrial Society Destroys Mind and EnvironmentSubmitted by sushil_yadav on Wed, 1969-12-31 20:00. Activism | Consciousness | culture | EcoVillage | Politics | Psychology | spirituality | Subjectivity | SustainabilityThis article is about the link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature. Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct. |
