I've written enough theory and have enough of a proof of concept for how I intend to collaboratively produce The Echo Chamber documentary -- I think that it's time to go after some new media grants.

The problem is that I haven't had a lot of time to search for these types of grants.

So here's my first assignment for you -- my dear reader -- poke around online and find of these new media grants. Post some links in the comment section. Wouldn't it be great to submit some grants that were collaboratively produced? Thanks in advance.

J-Lab Batten Awards

I'll start this off with an example grant called the J-Lab Batten Awards found via JD Lasica's New Media Musings:

The Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism spotlight news that is more than multimedia journalism. They reward journalism that uses new information ideas and technologies in innovative ways to involve people very actively in critical public issues by showing as well as telling, by providing access to news and information that stirs their imagination and invites participation.

Now up to this point, I think I should qualify for a grant like this. But then the J-Lab says:

* Entries must consist of journalism content created by a news-producing organization. Individuals must have been affiliated with such organizations at the time of publication to enter.

* Entries may include a single story, a project, or a series of stories, exercises or news "experiences." Pioneering efforts are encouraged.

I'd bet that most of the really innovative stuff isn't coming from large institutions.

If the consumers are now producers, then why is this grant only limited to producers?

Maybe I need to enter this anyway and tell the J-Lab to get on the Cluetrain.

I should call them up and ask them about this.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this grant or others?
